Investigating Paranormal Activity
Our experiences at The Royal Oak at Bookham. 20/05/07
The team on this Investigation were,

We arrived at the Royal Oak at 10:45 and walked into the public bar area. It felt like we had gone back in time and it was quite funny to see all the heads turn and look at us in silence, as if we were the spirits that had just appeared.
Then Dwaine the landlord came forward and welcomed us and everything went back to normal as we were shown into the lounge area for some refreshment.
There were two bars one the lounge and the other the public. One part of the pub was originally the telephone exchange, this was at the end of the lounge bar. We all sensed energy from both parts of this area. i.e. you could feel the difference between the lounge and the telephone exchange areas, as if the change had been imprinted in time.
As we sat in a corner of the lounge bar Gavin saw a face at the window looking in and sensed this was a regular occurrence. He could not describe the features.
At this time Jeff had felt sick and also his left arm had been severed, this was painful enough for him to move away from this area were we were sitting. This ceased when he moved.
The pub had emptied and we were talking to one of the staff, it was said that there was a spirit landlady which came from the cellar, and apparently did not like men ?
( During this investigation there was no evidence of any activity in the cellar ).
We set up two camcorders in the lounge area. (We had two results of moving light sources which are in our film post ).
Jeff had sensed in this area a woman lying on the slabbed floor in a crucifix position. He sensed she was falsely accused of something, and also sensed three monks standing in the doorway entrance, they were cisterine monks.
Two of them he explained had black ropes around their waists and the third had white. He sensed they had cleansed the place, and shortly after they did this someone had reported the woman he had seen to the authorities and she was dragged from the pub. ( She was found with herbs on her person ).
Lorraine was now sitting at the fireplace in the lounge, she felt someone stroking her hair and an arm around her shoulders, it felt gentle. She could see a lady in white with blood pouring from her face and neck. She was a gentle soul and she could not understand what had happened to her. She felt that she wanted her to know she was there and that she had suffered.
Lorraine decided to move away at this time as her head was hurting and her ankles were feeling stabbing pains, she sensed the name Elizabeth or Lizzy.
Jess had sensed in this area that there was a woman knelt down cleaning the fireplace.
Jeff had moved to the public bar on his own to meditate. He sensed a tall man in a black cape, large leather boots and a three cornered hat, he was accompanied by three large wolf hounds (large teeth)the dogs and this man were regulars to this pub, he was possibly a gamekeeper.
A short while later I (Alan) joined Jeff in the public bar and on entry I felt a strong activity, it was at this time we were taking pictures and Jeff caught on camera a mist and figure next to me by the front door. It was when I had felt a presence of someone near me.
My next experience was when I felt as if I was being pulled or guided towards the car park door at the end of the public bar.
When I reached the door I felt a presence but the pulling stopped.( Jeff had been taking pictures all the time but nothing was seen on camera).
It was now that Jeff suddenly sensed a child, he was given the name Emily and she was approx. 6 to 7 years old. She was very shy.
We both could now feel her and encouraged her forward. I (Alan) felt a touch on my hand, near my forefinger. Jeff was now kneeling two feet away facing where I was sitting and we both felt her presence between us.
This child was lost and we arranged for her to go across, she was very frightened and we encouraged her forward.
This was conducted very successfully in a short time and the area became very calm and serene.( A photo was taken just before this and the whole area was misty).
The camcorder was set up in this area earlier and we found one light source and two EVPs, the first was two loud thumps on the car park door(nothing was heard by us, only the film picked this up).
The second EVP was a sigh(female) which was near the camera, and the third was a choke or someone being sick near the bar.(No regulars were there at the time.).
Lorraine experience of this area was she felt goaded and sensed violence, drunkeness and debauchery. She also saw a large wolf hound with large teeth. She had a strong feeling that animals were regularly brought into this part of the pub.
She could hear laughter and the cries of people. As she had entered this bar she felt a tight grip on her shoulders and the laughter was guided at her. The area felt cold and uninviting and depressing, as if it was a waiting room, waiting for something terrible to happen.
She could smell body odor and grease.
When Lorraine returned to the fireplace in the lounge her heart felt heavy for the lady who had suffered, she again held her around her shoulders.
When Alan came in he felt as if he had shackles around his wrists.
We both came away from this area to rest and the feelings stopped.
We are intending to return in the next few weeks as there is unfinished work for us to do.
This has been agreed by Dwaine and it will include the upstairs quarters.

OUR FINDINGS ON THE INVESTIGATION OF
THE SEAGULL PUBLIC HOUSE
PORTCHESTER

WE ARRIVED AT THE SEAGULL AT AROUND 8pm, MYSELF, LORRAINE,SUE AND MARTIN, AS JESS WAS DUE TO ARRIVE AT 10pm, AND MET STEVE AND PAT AND THEIR DAUGHTER LOUISE. We had our evening meal which was very good and much needed as we were all very peckish.
We relaxed until around 11:30pm and it was at this time we had a look around while the customers were still in the building.
The pub was built in 1960 so it was fairly new in age going by some of the dwellings we have investigated. It was a large place and the ground floor was set out as, (facing the pub), there was a large bar to the left. (I will call this No.1)On the right was another large bar that (I will call this No.2) could not be entered by the left hand bar, you had to go round to its own entrance outside if you were the public.
This was mainly for eating, but you could still drink in this area if you chose. On the left of this was a new extension (I will call this No.3) and had further seating for meals. To the rear of that was a large room which was separated by two doors, this was used as a wake room (I will call this No.4) as the crematorium is opposite the pub.
The toilets were in the area of No.2 bar. The kitchen was also accessed from this area.
From bar No.1, you could access the kitchen and upstairs (we did not investigate the upstairs), also there was access to the store rooms and the cellar.
Jess arrived at 10pm, and after introducing every one, Jess, Lorraine and I (Alan) were shown the way to the caller.
We stood inside for about 5 minutes, it was very noisy, like most cellars they have pumps and air conditioning going. We could not sense anything in this area at that time. It was known that a man in a black coat with a trilby hat has been seen in there by the pest control man. He has seen this on several occasions and does not like that area. I set some trigger objects up in this area and we made our way back up to the team.
By now the place had emptied and had been locked so we started our walk round with all involved.
As we went through the kitchen to bar 1 Jess could sense that someone walks this area and in bar 1 it had what she called a sticky feeling. Like passing through an electric field.
We made our way back to bar 2 and I, Lorraine and jess were drawn to a corner where we all felt a re-action of some kind, it was a pleasant feeling.
We moved on to the store room which I found interesting to me as I was tingling from head to foot. Jess and Lorraine agreed that this area was a possibility of some kind of activity.
In this area was a cage for the bottled spirits (excuse the pun) so I set up a trigger object, This was a chair which was set against the door of the cage.
We returned to bar 2.
Lorraine and Jess sat their selves in the corner where we felt the most activity.
Sue and Pat and Steve sat in bar 1.
I and Martin went down to the cellar, we set the camcorder and left some trigger objects, also took some photos of the area. We then returned upstairs to bar, time 12:30pm.Martin went and joined the group in bar 1.
I had taken quite a few photos and picked up some strange lights of a hexagon shape, I took several shots of the same area in bar 2 and only 2 showed these unusual shapes.
Jess and Lorraine had finished in the corner of bar 2 and the results were good.
As I said they had sat on a bench by a window in the corner of bar 2. Jess had picked up on the name Frederick Ham bold or Hambolt,and the number 87. She also picked up the nickname, as she felt this is what it was, Delilah, and felt this was his wife who passed some years earlier.
Lorraine and Jess sat to the left of the bench and felt as if they were being pushed to the middle. But when they sat to the right of the bench they felt they were being pulled back to the middle.
They both felt that Fred did not want them to get up and they both felt they could not get up anyway.
They had both sat with their hands on the table in front of them, they experienced vibration from the table. Whilst asking questions they both felt cold sensations across their hands (there were no draughts in this area. Lorraine’s hands were lifted one by one, first the fingers lifted and then the hands.
They both felt that this contact was very gentle and friendly and these movements were as a goodbye as they closed down their sitting.
All the team then returned to bar 2 and had a break. There were no findings in bar 1, only that Sue felt pulled to the fireplace. This would be her next sitting place.
Lorraine and myself, while the others had a break went to the cellar and checked the trigger objects, I noticed a cloth that was next to the gas bottles, it was not there before. There was no sign of movement from the trigger objects. I shut down the camcorder and we retuned to the group.
We were all sitting by bar 2 having coffee when the door to the kitchen swung open, making us jump, there stood a spectra in a white sheet with his glasses placed on the the outside of the sheet, waving his arms about. We all burst into laughter as Steve the landlord revealed himself.
After we had settled ourselves Pat and myself went to the store room and on the way through the kitchen I noticed a cloth laid on the floor, I asked Pat if they had left any cloths about and she said they are always put away. I placed it on a worktop and we went to the storeroom.
Nothing had moved in the store room so I set up the camcorder and we returned to the group.
Sue, Martin and Pat sat in the corner where Jess and Lorraine had sat in bar 2, we all joined them apart from Jess and Lorraine who were sitting in the same area but over by the bar.
I called out asking if there was anyone who wished to make contact. The dog (a very nice Alsatian called Sable by the way ) whined and went straight to her owner Pat and nudged her for attention. Apart from that there was no contact on calling. When we moved to join Jess and Lorraine Sue felt a sudden coldness from her neck down to her feet. Jess took readings and found there was a drop of temperature of 2 degrees.
Jess,Lorraine,Martin,Pat,Steve,returned to bar 1. Sue and myself went to the store room. No sign of movement. The chair had not moved and I set up some coins on a surface as more trigger objects. We returned with the camcorder.
Pat had been sitting in bar 2 and said while she was resting she could hear Lorraine and Jess talking but also she could her other voices at the same time
Sue and Martin were in the other bar by the fireplace, there was no-one else near her.
Steve and Pat were now very tired and it was about 2:30 and they had had a very busy day because staff had let them down and they had to cover. We said goodnight to them and they retired to bed.
Jess Whilst in bar 1 had picked up while sitting at the bar, a very drunk person, but could not get any more on this person as they were so drunk. She said that it was very friendly.
Jess, Lorraine and myself were sitting in bar 2 having a coffee when Sue came in and said that a light on the fire came on which was in the fireplace, she had asked if there was anyone there and said can you turn the light off, and it went out. She did this twice.
The first thing I did was to check the plug and see if there was a timer. No sign of anything on the plug.
Sue called out again and the fire light came on, I was surprised but not convinced On further investigation we found it to be a sensor inside the fire.
It was just perfect timing on Sue calling out when the fire light came on…………she was quite disappointed. As this was her first invest.
I then returned to the cellar with Jess, passing through the kitchen I noticed another cloth on the floor, the first one I had found was still on the side where I had placed it. I placed this one next to it and moved to the cellar.
We found no results in the cellar.
We all returned to bar 2.
We sat in the corner again and attempted some table tilting. I called out and tried to make a contact, although we had no movement on the table, we saw Jesses hands were being pulled back and lifting.
After a time we returned to our table for another coffee, we had no other results.
While the others were having a break myself and Sue made our way to the store room, we passed through the kitchen and this time there was a small sponge on the floor, the other cloths had not moved. I placed the sponge on the side at an angle we could remember and went to the store room.
We found the chair had been moved about 2 inches away from the door and this was open about the same distance. It was cold in this room which I might add that the temperature was warm on the other times of visiting.
Again we returned to bar 2, Jess, Lorraine and myself went into the kitchen and as I called for a sign of anyone being there, as in the way of a tapping, three loud taps were heard next to us, Lorraine jumped and this made us all jump. On further investigation it was found that a fridge had switched on and vibrated the work surface making it sound like knocking. It was another perfect bit of uncanny timing as we called out. No other experiences were found.
We had all tried different areas of the pub and apart from cold spots we had no contact.
All the filming for this invest will have to be checked and sound tracks so as soon as we do we will add to this write up if we have more information.
Although this investigation was quite quiet at times it has shown that there is some activity within its dwelling. As we all know, any signs of activity are not there each and every time.
The stories that surround the place are that the disabled toilet door when locked with a slide bolt comes open and sets the alarms off.
There have been noises come from the women’s toilets when no-one is in there. And the gentleman in the cellar that wears a black coat and trilby hat.
None of these things happened while we were there, but this does not mean it is not true. Further investigation is needed.
The teams conclusion on the Seagull is that we feel there is activity in this building, although it is not a busy activity, non the less there is definitely some activity within this pub. We feel that it is worth a second investigation to compare our first findings.
Steve and Pat have agreed to this and we will set this up in the coming months.

Brook House. Godalming Surrey. 2007/8
We arrived at 7.30pm and as Lorraine walked in she felt both her legs hurting from the knees downwards.
While talking to Emma, Lorraine had the feeling of someone putting there arm in hers and trying to lead her away gently, it was a positive touch.
When entering one of the rooms upstairs she sat near the fireplace and heard the name “Peter Baker”. She then felt a gentle push between her shoulder blades and a hand, again gently, pat her stomach. She also sensed there were a lot of children there at some time, like a refuge, nursery or hospital. It was shortly after this that Lorraine felt so repressive, giddy and sick that it was decided to get her out and take her home
In the top room to the left Jeff sensed a woman “Mary’ Anne”, and the smell of bandages and alcohol. There were several lights sources around at this time. Alan sat at the top of the second floor stairs and he smelt a sweet old smell as if to be from an old lady
Jeff sensed death in his room and blistered legs on an elderly woman, as if she was burnt. This room was at the time heavy, suppressed and sad. He sensed the names Elliot and Thackery.
22.08 Jeff also sensed the name William Heart and sensed he was in visitation. This visitation had a bother who was a baker and he was very proud of him. (Lorraine also sensed the name Baker).
Also the names Suzanna Miles and Marcus or Mark were also sensed
There was a lot of visitation on this night
23.15 Backroom. Jeff senses a male between 50-70yrs in the 1960s, he was a heavy smoker with chest problems. Name John Legget, he was an accountant. Also the name Mary’Anne 5ft 4″ long flowing dress, the year 1800/1820.
He also felt something to his right and Alan confirmed while he was in the monitor room upstairs that he sensed a male with fair hair. Emma who was with Jeff felt quite fragile. Jeff senses pain across his shoulder blades and chest and the corner he stood in was suppressive and very dark, he felt pain in his lungs and sensed a negative feeling in the room. He said to Alan “We need to clear and move this spirit on tonight”. Two large light sources were seen coming from the corner towards the door and disappeared.
01.30 Jeff and Alan successfully cleared this room and blessed it. During the clearance there was a noise (EVP) which sounded like a Childs squeaky two toned toy. Later that night Emma returned to this room and confirmed how calm it felt.
2.04 Alan, Jeff and Emily were now in the top front room of the house. Jeff senses a child next to him and feels a touch to his hand. We were concerned that a child would be there on her own but Alan sensed a strong presence of a nanny with her and sensed this was definitely visitation (Jeff sensed governess), which was quite a relief as we always worry when children come forward Shortly after Alan sensed the name “Bailey”, and Jeff sensed he was a naval admiral. It was then that Jeff sensed the name “Emily Gray”, again this was visitation.
2.04 Alan sensed the name “Mandalin”, and Jeff at the same time sensed “Madaline”. Also Alan sensed “Janice” and the initials “JA” ,and Alan experienced a heavy feeling and felt angry. At this point two knocks were heard and two light sources were seen at the same time.
2.30 Jeff smelt morphine and rotten flesh. We took a break.
3.10 Emily shouted she saw a camera cable move downstairs. Alan ,Jeff and Emma went to investigate and saw that the fixing for the cable had come loose causing it to fall. BUT when viewing the film footage it was seen that there was a definite series of tugs on the cable and after around 20seconds it then fell. We have NO explanation for this.
3.45 Jeff and Alan sat in the middle floor room and several times they both recognized the smell of some kind of disinfectant.
During the night Jeff visited the front downstairs room and sensed with Emma that there was the smell of lily’s and a sense of a chapel of rest. This was very strange as Lorraine sensed coffins within the building. There was a strong residual energy within this room which we will be investigating further.
We found there was a great deal of visitation on this night and yet again the spirits that reside here were reluctant to come forward and give more information.
